Happy Birthday, Daddy!

October 8th was Robbie's first birthday as a daddy, as well as being his big 3-0!!!! I wanted to have a special night for him, so we invited Mama, Hannah, Ashley and Willie to go to Winston's for dinner and I got a cake from our fave, Edible Art! We had a great time and William did great in his 1000th restaurant (just kidding!)

The boy loves his movies!

Coming Home

On Monday, September 26th, we were able to come home! I was feeling SO much better and was recovering pretty well I thought. The csection was not nearly as bad as I would have thought. I was a little stiff at first, but that was the only bad part. We were ready that morning and we finally got to leave that afternoon. Even though I was ready to come home, I was very nervous and would end up missing the hospital with the nurses at your every need!

Robbie got William dressed and read him a book while we waited.

Ready!

Family of 3!!!
My mom and sister had been at our house all morning cleaning it and getting it all ready for our arrival!

Meeting big sister Riley!

First time in my swing!

Riley did not know what to think! I was so nervous about her being around him at first. Thankfully, she is doing just fine..with our supervision always, of course!

Happy Birthday, William!!!

The morning of September 22, I woke up with trepidation about my doctor appointment that day. My blood pressure had been getting higher and higher, and it seemed like every other appointment ended with a trip to the hospital. So, Robbie and I arrived at the doctor for my 11:30 appointment. I was slated to go to the hospital that Sunday for an induction. I was nervous about that because the doctor that was on call that night was not one I was overly fond of. I definitely had my favorites ;)

To the lab I go...and come out with a blood pressure reading of around 152/125. The highest EVER. So I automatically start freaking about that thinking, here goes another hospital visit. I go into my non-stress test; Robbie and I discussing how we KNOW we are going to the hospital after this for a checkup. Next thing I know, Dr. Groff comes into the room and says, "OK, guys, I know we had a plan for Sunday, but sometimes plans change and this blood pressure is crazy. You are having this baby now." I said, "HUH?!?!" and Robbie is just silent. She told me I didn't even have time to go home and get my bags! So, shaking, we walked out of the dr's office to a chorus of good luck! I got in the car and called my mom...."Mama, you will NOT believe this...we are going to have the baby!" She was in total disbelief and thought I was joking! I quickly called my boss, my dad, Robbie's parents & boss, and some friends before heading into the hospital! I was taken right back to labor & delivery and asked who was on call from my practice that day...it was our favorite, Dr. Inge!!!  I don't know how I got so lucky. He came in shortly after they got me all set up with an IV and checked...and of course there was no dilation. So he says, "what has happened is you have gone from borderline preeclampsia, to preeclampsia, to severe preeclampsia in a matter of days and this is getting very dangerous. So, you have the choice to try to get things going and lay here and labor for days OR go ahead and have a csection."  Well to me, the irony was so great! In the beginning of my pregnancy, I had said I wanted a scheduled csection because labor scared me so bad. Now I was facing the choice and not sure of what I wanted to do!!! So an hour or so later, after Dr. Inge had checked on us several times to see if we made a decision haha, I decided on the c section. I was 36 weeks and 6 days.

Once I made the decision, the nurses were buzzing around as if it were an emergency!! Within 15 minutes, I was being wheeled to the operating room and Mama and Robbie were telling me goodbye. Robbie went to get changed and I had to have my spinal block put in. Ugh, that needle hurt!!!! And shot fire down my leg and he had to try again. That was the worst part! Within seconds, my body was NUMB! Then the spinal made me SICK because of the blood pressure drop that I was warned about. They put up the curtain and the doctor came in and talked to me. Thankfully, Robbie finally made it in there. I instantly felt better! After that, everything happened really quickly and I felt like I was in and out of it. Finally, they pulled William out and I heard him cry. I was so relieved to hear that cry because of him being so early! They took him and Robbie into the nursery right there in the operating room and checked him out after I saw him briefly. He was born at 5:53 pm and weighed 6lbs and 13oz and 19.5 in long!

The next thing I know, I'm in recovery and then about an hour later, in my room with Mama, Hannah and Robbie. I was in no pain whatsoever. Ashley and Willie were there, as well as Stephanie and her dad. Later, Robbie's parents and my dad showed up!

We stayed in the hospital until Monday. It was a glorious stay. The nurses were so wonderful and attentive and we didn't have to want for a thing. Lots of people came to visit and it was wonderful. Shelley came the day after he was born for the day and we loved that!!

We were so happy to finally meet our sweet boy!!!!

The End

Wow...so much updating needed! I haven't even introduced the blogging world to my sweet William yet! For now, I am going to do a quick catch up of those last few weeks so that I can always remember.

Week 31.5...I was diagnosed with pre-preeclampsia...my blood pressure was slowly creeping up and there were traces of protein in my urine. So, I was sent home with my first ever 24 hour urine test...what a pain! It has to stay refrigerated, so I would go all the way downstairs in the middle of the night (14 times) to use the bathroom and refrigerate. That showed even more protein...so my dr put me on modified bed rest and told me to start working home. Thank goodness for a flexible boss who allowed me to work from home. I am so, so thankful. The doctor looked right at Robbie and said "She cannot do ANYTHING around the house that does not HAVE to be done, so definitely not cleaning". Robbie was thinking...Umm this is no change from her normal life! LOL. The next morning, I had to get a shot to develop his lungs quicker in case I delivered before 34 weeks. This freaked me out immensely; just thinking of a baby that early!

At this point, I was having doctor appointments TWICE A WEEK!!! I was going so much that the doctors and nurses were recognizing me BY NAME when I walked in! And this is a huge medical practice! Unfortunately, at each appt, my blood pressure was rising and rising. I also had to have an ultrasound every Monday and non-stress test every Thursday to monitor William. Blood was drawn once a week to make sure my organs weren't suffering. Thank goodness they never did, or the towel would have been thrown in ASAP! At most appointments, my BP was low enough not to warrant a hospital visit. But near the end, FOUR times I was sent to Rex to be monitored and to have more blood work done to ensure myself and baby were fine.

Meanwhile, we were busy getting things ready for the big arrival!

35.5 weeks! Last picture before William!
At every doctor appointment, I held my breath thinking, "Please don't let it be THE day, yet" I wanted my sweet boy to be as healthy as possible. My bags weren't even packed!!! But I was miserable. I am not used to staying in the house at all. I would sneak out once a day to eat dinner. AND we were planning Ashley's shower...which was September 17th! That would turn out to be my last weekend baby-free! I was so swollen at the end it was almost comical. My nose wasn't my nose. It was ridiculous. People would say how good I looked (lies) and I would say, oh you don't understand, this isn't even my face!!! I didn't even look like myself! It was all worth it though, and even with these complications, it was NOTHING compared to what some people go through and I would do it all over again!!!
